You Only Live Twice

Hello all!

As you can see, I’ve moved studios… again…

I was working well in my Nashua basement studio!… until the ceiling sprung a leak. I had intended for the Nashua studio to be temporary until a better space opened up anyway, so it wasn’t that unexpected (the leak certainly lit a fire under me to find a better space, sooner rather than later). With some persistence and much emailing back and forth, an opportunity opened up in an old mill building in Wilton, NH. I saw the space and I just had to have it! Four full windows and old New England mill charm? YES, PLEASE. I signed on the spot.

It needed a little bit of TLC. The previous owners left many holes in the walls and paint drips everywhere. Did some caulking and a fresh coat of black paint and it instantly felt like home! It took more than a few trips to carry all my stuff over in my old Jeep (I even loaded up my Challenger because I could fit bodies in that trunk haha). It looked pretty chaotic in there for about a week while it was painted and spackled.

So, without further ado, here is my new studio! Located in the Riverview Mill Artists community in historic downtown Wilton, NH. This old mill used to be a furniture factory and I can’t tell you how many ancient finishing nails I discovered wedged between the floor boards.

The back section by my desk still needs some work. The plan is to build a bar/book shelf out of the slatted plywood cover from the concrete block in the Nashua studio. Being an old mill, the floor is anything but level, so my desk will need some shims. I also need to get some art up in the hallway outside and put my business cards out there. Otherwise, I’ve got my work up on the walls and I even have room to bring back my full TV tower! I missed it very much. I’ve got plenty of gorgeous light for working and for my beloved plants. Can’t have my studio without a bottle of New Riff, of course.

I am very much looking forward to getting back to collaging in a true permanent studio space. It’s also really nice to be a part of an active artist community again. I’ll post more photos after I’ve gotten settled in a little more. I know from my multitude of studio spaces that it takes some time and “living in” for a studio to click— but this one truly feels right already!

The Riverview Mill Artists host open studio events occasionally and I may choose to participate, in the future. For now I will be open by appointment only, but feel free to contact me and we can set something up!

Thanks for reading, see you in the next post!
